Helping Neck and Back Injury Victims Across California State
A spinal cord injury ("SCI") is often a result of an auto accident, a truck accident, construction site accident or due to a slip and fall.
If you have suffered a spinal cord injury, you should consult with your doctor immediately. It is important for your doctor to document your complaints, evaluate your injury, and determine the best treatment plan.
Many spinal cord injuries, such as a whiplash injury, may be temporary, lasting 2-4 weeks and then subsiding. However, in some spinal cord injuries, the pain persists and may be the result of a substantial injury.
Sacramento Personal Injury Attorney represent thousands of spinal cord injury victims, including individuals who have suffered cervical disc herniations, lumbar disc herniations, those who have undergone disc replacement and fusion surgeries and those who have been paralyzed due to an injury accident.

Common Spinal Surgeries
There are many surgical procedures performed on people who have suffered a spinal cord injury. We have touched on a few for your convenience.
Compression Fractures
A compression fracture is when the bones of the spine break due to a severe trauma.
When there is a compression fracture of the spine, the bone tissue of the vertebral body collapses into itself. Compression fracture injuries are very serious as they are usually caused by a strong impact on the body.
Other injuries may occur as well, such as damage to the ligaments, nerve root or spinal cord damage. Spinal cord injuries can be extremely serious because they can cause loss of feeling or motion.
The most common treatments for a thoracic compression fracture are pain medications, decreasing activity, and wearing a brace. In rare cases, surgery may also be necessary.
Paralysis Cases
Paralysis is an injury or disease to a person’s nervous system, which affects the ability to move or feel. Although paralysis may affect an individual muscle, it usually affects an entire region.
Thoracic Spinal Injuries
The thoracic spine is located in the chest area and contains 12 vertebrae. The ribs connect to the thoracic spine and protect many vital organs, such as the heart and lungs.
Upper back injuries can occur as a result of trauma or sudden injury, or it can occur through strain or poor posture over time. Auto accidents are responsible for most cases of thoracic spine fractures.
Compression fractures of the spine usually occur at the bottom part of the thoracic spine (T11 and T12) and the first vertebra of the lumbar spine (L1). Injuries in the thoracic region may affect the chest and the legs and can result in paralysis.
Cervical Spine Injuries
An injury to the cervical spine can cause serious problems as most nerves to the rest of the body have to pass through the neck.
Lumbar Spine - Back Injuries
The lumbar spine consists of five bones or vertebrae in the lower back region, although some people actually have six vertebrae.
A back injury to the lumbar spine is common and can result from car accidents, sports injuries, workplace injuries, falls, and violence.
In the low back region, the most serious injuries involve fractures of the spine or disc herniations. Many of these can be treated without surgery, however, if your spine is not stable, if it collapses or if there is nerve damage, surgery may be necessary.
